BIO
Devin River is a textile artist living and working in Olympia, WA. A disabled artist utilizing a variety of discarded fabrics within the historically undervalued art form of quilting, River explores the concept of value as it applies to objects, labor, and human beings. The traditional “starburst” quilt motif is fragmented, reflecting upon the way rigid traditions and systems themselves often fragment when confronted with difference. Born in Eugene, Oregon in 1985, River is self-taught and multidisciplinary, with years of history as an experimental musician (Entrail) prior to their current visual arts practice.
